Texas Dietitians Take the Lead

TDA offers its most sincere congratulations to the following award recipients for 2008! All awards listed here were selected or awarded by TDA and/or ADA. For other honors, please see our Member Achievements page.

It is an honor and a high achievement to be nominated for a TDA Award. We congratulate the following members who have been named award recipients for 2008.

Texas Distinguished Dietitian
This is the highest honor bestowed on a member of the Texas Dietetic Association. It is designed to recognize and honor a Texas dietitian who has made outstanding and significant contributions to TDA as well as the profession of dietetics.

  • Awarded to Roberta H. Anding, MS, RD, LD, CDE, CSSD

Texas Distinguished Scientist
This honor is bestowed upon a member who has made outstanding and significant contributions to research in the field of dietetics, nutrition, food science or related sciences.

  • Awarded to Janice E. Stuff, PhD, RD

TDA Media Award
This award honors an outstanding individual that has made a positive impact on the promotion of nutrition and dietetics through the media.

  • Awarded to Teresa Lyn Wagner, MS, RD, LD

Bluebonnet Award
Recognizes a distinguished individual who is not a dietitian, who has made significant contributions to advance nutrition and dietetics in Texas.

  • Awarded to Christina Esperat, PhD, RN

ADA Emerging Dietetic Leader
This award was established by the 1996 ADA board of directors. It allows the Association to recognize new leaders within the profession without a chronological age criterion. Instead, this award uses length of practice as a criterion.

  • Awarded to Jody Peach, MS, RD, LD

Outstanding Dietetic Educator
This award honors one outstanding educator from each CADE-approved dietetics education program: Didactic Program in Dietetics, Dietetic Internship/Pre-professional Practice Program, Coordinated Program, and Dietetic Technician Program.

  • Awarded to Katherine Y. Southworth, MS, RD, LD (CP)
  • Awarded to Sharon K. Bode, PhD, RD, LD (DI)
  • Awarded to Karen S. Kubena, PhD, RD (DPD)

Outstanding Dietetic Student
Honors one outstanding student from each CADE-approved dietetics education program: Didactic Program in Dietetics, Dietetic Internship/Pre-professional Practice Program, Coordinated Program, and Dietetic Technician Program.

  • Awarded to Kacie L. Beckett (CP)
  • Awarded to Jena L. Brown, BS (DI)

Registered Young Dietitian of the Year
This award recognizes the achievements of up to five outstanding young dietitians in Texas per year.

  • Awarded to Valerie Henderson, MS, RD, LD
  • Awarded to Anne H. Newton, MS, RD, LD
  • Awarded to Maria Q. B. Petzel, RD, LD, CNSD
